Cookie Policy
Last updated: May 2026
Overview
This Cookie Policy explains how pillread uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit pillread.com or use the pillread browser extension. pillread uses only strictly necessary cookies: no advertising, no analytics trackers, no third-party tracking of any kind.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They allow the site to remember information about your visit (for example, that you are signed in) so you do not have to re-enter your credentials on every page.
Cookies we use
pillread sets two categories of first-party cookies. Neither is used for advertising or tracking purposes.
- Authentication session cookies (sb-*-auth-token): set by Supabase Auth when you sign in. These keep you logged in across page navigations and browser restarts. They expire when you sign out or after the session timeout configured by Supabase (typically one week with token refresh). Without these cookies the app cannot function.
- Language preference cookie (NEXT_LOCALE): set by next-intl when you visit the site. Stores your chosen interface language (English or Turkish) so you are served the correct locale on return visits. Expires after one year. Deleting it causes the site to fall back to your browser's default language on the next visit.
Strictly necessary cookies (no consent banner required)
Both cookies listed above are strictly necessary for the service to operate. Under GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive, strictly necessary cookies are exempt from the consent requirement. This is why pillread does not show a cookie consent banner. If you disable these cookies via your browser settings you will not be able to sign in or use the app.
No third-party tracking
pillread does not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, Mixpanel, or any other third-party analytics or advertising service. No cookie or tracking pixel is set by any party other than pillread.com itself. Sentry (error monitoring) uses a session identifier stored in memory, not in a persistent cookie.
Browser extension storage
The pillread browser extension stores your authentication session in the browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local / browser.storage.local), not in cookies. This storage is isolated to the extension and is not accessible by websites you visit. It is cleared when you sign out of the extension.
How to control cookies
You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. Most browsers also allow you to delete existing cookies. Visit your browser's help pages for instructions: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera each have dedicated cookie management sections under Settings → Privacy. Note that blocking the authentication cookie will prevent you from signing in to pillread.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if we add new features that require additional cookies. The date at the top of this page reflects the last update. If we introduce any non-essential cookies in the future we will obtain your consent before setting them.
